Ready For The Boxing Day Bounce?

Posted by: IanWatson

Once you have Christmas Day over and done with, you may be looking forward to a few days of relaxation and socialising. However, for many people, this is a busy time of year. You may be working, you may have a lot of post-Christmas chores to take care of, or you may be gearing up for what New Year has to offer.

A lot of people like to make changes in their life in January. Some people start a healthy lifestyle regime, while other people set out to enhance their career prospects. However, a lot of homeowners are keen to sell their home in New Year, and this can take up a lot of people’s time and energy.

Vendors need to list their property where buyers are looking

If you are selling your home, it is best to be where buyers are. Thankfully, a lot of potential buyers are also keen to make changes in New Year, which leads to a surge of buyers engaging the market. However, an increasing number of buyers aren’t waiting for New Year, they are active before the of the year.

Zoopla has urged estate agents to be ready for an increase in enquiries between the festive period and New Year. The property portals expect a 60% increase concerning month-on-month visitors, and an 80% increase in applicant and valuation leads for the festive period and early January. Rightmove have also stated they have previously experienced a 228% increase in page views during the week between Christmas and New Year.

This is a busy time of year for many reasons

Andy Marshall is the Chief Commercial Officer at Zoopla, and he said; “Much like the perfect Christmas lunch, having a successful January for agents is all about preparation and getting as much as possible done in advance. Whether it’s the basics like having your stock and photography up to date and having enough staff to deal with enquiries, or something a little more complex like taking advantage of different online marketing tools, there are a number of quick and easy steps you can take. Either way, the opportunity is great and the rewards are there for the taking.”

Andy Marshall continued by saying; “We know from Boxing Day onwards people begin to think about the future. Whether that’s downsizing as kids have flown the nest, upsizing to meet the needs of a growing family, or a move to be closer to the grandkids, there are opportunities aplenty. There’s no better feeling than a winning start to the year, and here at Zoopla we are ready to support agents with everything they need to have a successful 2020.”
